Yarrow was once known as "nosebleed", it's feathery leaves making an ideal astringent swab to encourage clotting. Yarrow skin washes and leaf poultices can stanching bleeding and help to disinfect cuts and scrapes, taken as a tea it can help slow heavy menstrual bleeding as well. Yarrow is a good herb to have on hand to treat winter colds and fevers, a hot cup of yarrow tea can make you sweat which cools fevers and helps the body expel toxins. The chemical makeup of yarrow is complex, and it contains many active medicinal compounds in addition to the tannins and volatile oil azulene. These compounds are anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and help relax blood vessels.

2. sweet myrtle (Acorus calamus)
Sweet myrtle, or calamus has been used since ancient times for its effects on the digestive system and the lungs. This herb eliminates phlegm, clears congestion, and tranquilizes the mind.

3. kukui nut oil (Aleurites moluccanus)
Kukui oil is expeller expressed from the nuts, and is light yellow with an amber tint. The oil penetrates skin deeply to hydrate and soften and is used an an emollient in skin care. Kukui oil is used to treat a variety of skin ailments such as eczema, psoriasis and burned or damaged skin. Kukui is an excellent botanical source of fatty acids and antioxidants, as well as Vitamins A,C and E.

4. aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis)
It has antibacterial, anti fungal and antiviral compounds that help prevent wound infections. It also has immune-stimulating and anti-inflammatory compounds, and it stimulates collagen synthesis and skin regeneration after a burn. Aloe vera contains vitamins C and E, plus the mineral zinc. It is soothing, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial - helps heal acne, improve the appearance of wrinkles, and hydrate damaged skin. Applying a thin layer of aloe vera will help ease discomfort caused by painful skin irritations, flea and insect bites

5. lemon verbena (Aloysia citriodora)
Lemon verbena is used primarily as a culinary herb, but it also makes a delightful medicinal herb tea that soothes stomach spasms and calm nerves and reduces fevers.

6. snakeroot (Aristolochia spp)
Snakeroot has been cultivated for medicinal use since the at least the middle ages when it was used as a birthing herb. It was also used in the early years in adjunct to quinine to promote perspiration and break fevers, and treat snakebites.. Members of the Aristolochia spp have recently been implicated in cases of kidney failure. As snakeroot is toxic in large doses,it is not recommended for use.

7. mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris)
Sometimes overlooked for more "flashy" herbs in this current day, mugwort is still a favorite of wise women. Mugwort has an affinity for the female reproductive system and is used as a uterine stimulant that can bring on delayed menstruation and help restore a woman's natural monthly cycle. 1
As all the bitter herbs, mugwort is an excellent digestive stimulant and is quite effective taken before or after heavy meals to alleviate gas and bloating.
One of the more interesting traditional uses of mugwort is that of a dream herb. It is often used as one of the main ingredients in sleep pillows, and it said to bring the dreamer more lucid dreams. Mugwort is also often used as a smudging (burning) ceremonial herb. It is mildly sedative and useful in calming frayed nerves and easing stress. A combination of agrimony, mugwort and vinegar is an excellent treatment for sciatica or muscular stiffness.

8. damiana (Turnera diffusa)
Damiana has an ancient, erotic reputation. It is an Aphrodisiac and has earned its reputation as a male and female sexual stimulant. This is the Aphrodisiac to use when sexual dysfunction has a strong emotional content.
MALES: It is believed to contain alkaloids that stimulate the body's levels of testosterone and it is used to treat erectile dysfunction, impotence, and inability to reach orgasm.
FEMALES: Damiana is known to produce a mild, short lived euphoric state. Interestingly it is a good tonic as a sexual hormone rebalancer.

9. andiroba oil (Carapa guianensis)
Andiroba oil is an anti-inflammatory oil rich in omega-3 fatty acids that promote skin healing from cuts and may slow the growth of skin cells. It promotes normal circulation to the skin and relieves pain and swelling. You can also use the bark and leaves for fever-reducing and externally as a wash for skin problems, ulcers, and insect bites, and as an insect repellent.
